Sinkhole Disaster
Monday, September 11 Paul Fisher and other students of Lake Windsor Downs Middle School were trapped in a sinkhole. Paul was heading to the portables when he heard a crack, crack, cracking sound. He then saw all the kids with their teacher’s running out of their portables. Rain fell heavily as the students and teachers tried to escape. Kids started yelling and screaming as they leaped from the portables to the ankle deep mud.
Paul noticed that portable 19 was trapped in the sinkhole. He screamed to Joey and said that portable 19 was his math class being buried alive. Paul and Joey ran to portable 19 and helped the students that were trapped in the portable get out. Once all the students and teachers were out, they ran to the main building in a tight clump. The Mrs. Gates, the principal, told the students to go to their bus stop and let the bus take them home safely.
When Paul got home safely as promised he told his parents what had happened in school that day. They were shocked to hear what had happened. They were happy that he was safe. Later on in the afternoon, Paul’s grandparents called and said that their school was on the news on CNN. His grandparent’s were also happy to hear that Paul was ok. At night, Paul got a call from Joey saying that he heard portable 18 was buried alive in the sinkhole. Paul felt terrible just thinking about it.
Friday, September 15 Paul and his parents went to the school at night and were ready to hear about the emergency relocation plan for the school. While they were waiting for the principal, Paul’s mom started telling Paul that he might have to go to a Catholic school but Paul reminded her that they were not Catholic. Paul’s mother responded and said that she talked to the principal Sister Mary Margaret and said that you didn’t have to be Catholic to go to that school. Soon after that Mrs. Gates went on stage and apologized for standing-room-only conditions. She said that there is zero chance of a sinkhole ever harming them again. People were curious and at the same time happy that Mrs. Gates announced there would never be a sinkhole harming their school again. Next, she announced that all students and teachers would be able to go back to school the next Monday. Everyone was surprised to hear that they would be returning to school on Monday.
After all, Paul thought it was going to be a major disaster going back to school on Monday because in the meeting they said the eighth graders would squeeze into the high school and the seventh graders would have to squeeze into the middle school. On their way home, Paul starting telling his mom that she had ruined his life in LakeWindsor middle school because she turned in an IEP. He yelled to his dad that he would never complain about his brother Erik. That was his last chance. He told his parents he just wanted to go to Tangerine Middle school without an IEP so he wouldn’t have to be water boy, he could finally be goalie.
